    The Other Side

This was The Otherside’s first experience in a professional recording studio and we’re glad we chose to work with Jeff!

We couldn’t have achieved the results that we did without Jeff’s GURU recording expertise, perfectionism, excellent work ethic, and strong musical background.

Jeff’s willingness to explore the unknown brought ideas to the table that we would have never thought of and, as a result, our songs have a lot more uniqueness and depth.

Jim Whitstrom

Just wanted to drop you a few lines and say thank you so much for all the hard work you put in to helping me craft my songs.

The final mixes sound AMAZING and I couldn't ask for anything better!!

Your patience and professional attitude are what made them so great!

So long as I'm anywhere remotely near the region of Calgary, I will be coming back to your studio whenever I record. The responses I've gotten from friends on the tracks are wonderful and I can't wait to record again with you in the future!

The first time you showed me the preliminary mixes through your monitors, it was literally like listening to my dreams being played through them!

This was such a fun project to work on, and you took both tracks to new levels. I cannot wait to get back into your studio! Thanks again Jeff!

Alchemy Music Production

Every Style of Music is unique and often special production considerations are needed to bring out the correct flavour of a song.

As you can see from my discography, I have experience and appreciation in just about every style of music.

Everything in the player above was recorded at Alchemy Studio (click the power button on the lower left to open the player)

Here is a brief explanation for the production of the songs in the player above.

*Track 1 - Occams Razor - Hunger for the Infinite. This is a new track from my own metal project Occams Razor. I wrote, performed and recorded this one myself - hope you enjoy it.

*Track 2 - Stoning Mary - Hot little rocket. Winners of Rockstar 2009 second round, this Calgary band impressed me with thier cool songs and huge work ethic.

*Track 3 - Dennis Tiegler - The Gardener. Dennis is a powerful songwriter and this song about his father demonstrates his strong lyrical ability and vocal talents. I contributed the nylon guitar and bass on this track.

*Track 4 - Decoy Decoy - Stalker love. This Calgary 3 piece recorded 3 tracks in 10 hours (including mixing and mastering) This is a basic recording ( no extra overdubs or layering ) but a strong, and honest representation of the band.

*Track 5 - Let Go. I did this song myself just for fun. I was messing around with the drums and bass and came up with the verse riff, added the guitar and it just grew from there. See if you can guess what the song is about.

*Track 6 - Sing for Freedom - Obey The Fist. OTF is putting the finishing touches on thier full length release to be entitled A viral Nation. Sing For Freedom showcases thier unique melodic metal approach.

*Track 7 - The Forest. Bridgefallen Prophecy is a band that has had some recording experience already and you can tell. The vocals feature a female lead with heavy layering (everybody sings) and lots of guitars. We triple tracked some of the guitar rhythms and there are many layers throughout. The main challenge was to deliver a mix that stilll had lots of punch and clarity.

*Track 8 - Burn. Calgary rock band The Other Side recorded with the hope of winning contests and getting some airplay. So far, so good. We had to mix this one a couple times to get the guitars and vocals to "sit" in the mix nicely, but it was worth it. Burn is burning up the airwaves in Montreal right now!

*Track 9 - Give me a Reason. Jay Mohler is a Calgary based Singer Songwriter with some fantastic songs. To this song we added a little beat groove in parts to add some movement and interest and I helped out on the bass duties.

*Track 10- I Like You. Sandi Sienkow is a talented songwriter who recently recorded 2 songs at Alchemy Studio. I Like You features classical guitar and fretless bass to accompany Annika's wonderful voice. ( music by alchemy )

*Track 11- Universal Empathy. Calgary progressive metal band Perfect Parriah has a cool approach to music. The production was fairly typical. Drums recorded to a click track, guitars doubled up and I kept the bass up front because it's so interesting. We did some vocal layering which worked well in the intro and end.

*Track 12 - Losing You - Satori Life continues to win fans with thier catchy mix of rock/pop/reggae and soul.

*Track 13 - Not Doing That. This is Sandi Sienkow's second effort and showcases Annika's talent as a vocalist and Pianist. The mix is thick with many guitar and keyboard tracks and highlighted by twin electric guitar leads ( music by alchemy )

*Track 14 - Keep me Entertained. Another great song from Jay Mohler. All of this songs started out as acoustic pieces, Jay plays all the guitar parts and hired a drummer and bass player.

*Track 15 - Sending the Axe. Cast In Stone takes no prisoners and makes no apologies. This Calgary metal band is forging ahead after releasing their 5 song EP.

*Track 16 - Rain. This is a great song from Jim Whitstrom. Jim records as often as he can and this is a fine effort. Rain started out as an acoustic song and grew from there. Jim sings and plays guitar

*Track 17 - Snuff Star. Diesel May is burning up the airwaves in Red Deer with their new self titled release. For this album we concentrated on Big guitars, Big drums, Big bass and Big vocals.

*Track 18 - The Path to Greatness. The guys from Galactic Records came in over the winter and dropped this one. They came in with this beat and recorded their vocals in almost no time at all.

*Track 19 - Silence is Everything. Another acoustic song from Jay Mohler that kept on growing. Check out the interesting vocal layering at the end.

*Track 20- Zion. Miciah Marcus recorded a fantastic album which is earning him quite a reputation around Alberta. He sets up some deep moods and grooves as is evident from this piece. (music by alchemy)

*Track 21 - I'll Wait for You. Another wonderful song from Satori Life. We worked really hard on this CD, adding many layers and samples to add depth and interest to the songs. The intro on this song is a perfect example.

*Track 22 - White Rabbit. The First Church of Mud covers a classic song. This Metal band has some really good original songs, but I love what they did with this Jefferson Airplane tune. Check out the bass intro

*Track 23 - Downtown. This Satori Life hit got airplay last summer, so most have already heard it - but just in case you haven't.

*Track 24 - Nah Fe Worry. Another song from Miciah Marcus in a reggae frame of mind ( music by alchemy )

*Track 25 - Tearing Down the World. An acoustic number from Jay Mohler, he recorded the vocals and guitar in one take, impressive.
